Headphones Don't Mute Speakers
« on: March 08, 2012, 03:26:28 PM »
Looked all over trying different fixes, but can't find a way to have my speakers mute when I plug in my headphones.  The sound comes over the headphones, but the sound also comes over the speakers at the same time - which defeats the purpose.  I could go through the hassle of turning down the volume on the speakers every time I want to use the headphones, but I would rather have it auto-mute if at all possible.

Do you have CONFIG_SND_HDA_INPUT_JACK enabled in the kernel?

Is this something that can be done in pclinuxos, and if so how?

Another post I saw elsewhere talked about making sure headphone jack sense on in alsamixer.  When I go in there, I cannot find anything labelled as that.

this is a kernel flag set up when building kernels, on PCLinuxOS is already enabled:

Quote
$ cat /boot/config-2.6.38.8-pclos3.pae | grep CONFIG_SND_HDA_INPUT_JACK
CONFIG_SND_HDA_INPUT_JACK=y

Thanks AS.

Do you have "headphone jack sense" listed in alsamixer?

No, but I have <auto-mute> enabled (turn off the speakers when headset is plugged in):

Ok, maybe my ALC892 doesn't have the auto-mute?
