Running an update today in Synaptic, and the following is going to be done (from "Save Markings..." in Synaptic):
Code: [Select]
libcryptsetup1 install
handbrake install
libflac++6 install
libdbus-glib-1_2 install
jadetex deinstall
pdfjam deinstall
texlive-texmf install
libffi4-devel install
libflac8 install
gettext-base install
libtiff4 install
libglib2.0_0 install
libbarry17 install
perl-Algorithm-Diff install
info-install install
t1lib-config install
cryptsetup install
glib-gettextize install
gettext install
python-sip install
GConf2-sanity-check install
mylivecd install
barry-tools install
perl-XML-XPath install
tetex-context deinstall
libintl8 install
libdbus-glib-1_2-devel install
GConf2 install
barry-opensync install
perl-libxml-perl install
libdca0 install
tetex deinstall
liblua5.1 install
perl-XML-XSLT install
libffi4 install
libglib2.0_0-devel install
perl-XML-DOM install
libtiff-progs install
libptexenc1 install
tetex-dvips deinstall
libORBit2_0 install
libdvdnav4 install
libdvdread4 install
zziplib0 install
libdbus-1-devel install
libdirectfb1.4_0 install
dbus-x11 install
perl-XML-Grove install
libgdata-i18n install
barry-charge install
texlive install
libdbus-1_3 install
winff install
libt1lib5 install
dbus install
libkpathsea6 install
xmltex deinstall
libgtk+3_0 install
glib2.0-common install
barry-gui install
flac install
barry-ppp install
ORBit2 install
tetex-latex deinstall
libecap0 install
info install
libgettextmisc install

Concerned about the following being removed:
Quote
jadetex
pdfjam
tetex-context
tetex
tetex-dvips
xmltex
tetex-latex

Updated four other systems from the same repository, and nothing was removed, just upgraded...

Not sure how to determine what is causing this...

Took a stab at trying this approach (suggested by AS), but nothing was suggested for removal:
Code: [Select]
libcryptsetup1 install
handbrake install
libflac++6 install
libdbus-glib-1_2 install
libflac8 install
gettext-base install
libtiff4 install
libglib2.0_0 install
libbarry17 install
info-install install
cryptsetup install
glib-gettextize install
gettext install
python-sip install
GConf2-sanity-check install
mylivecd install
barry-tools install
libintl8 install
libdbus-glib-1_2-devel install
GConf2 install
barry-opensync install
libdca0 install
liblua5.1 install
libglib2.0_0-devel install
libtiff-progs install
libORBit2_0 install
libdvdnav4 install
libdvdread4 install
libdbus-1-devel install
libdirectfb1.4_0 install
dbus-x11 install
libgdata-i18n install
barry-charge install
libdbus-1_3 install
winff install
dbus install
libgtk+3_0 install
glib2.0-common install
barry-gui install
flac install
barry-ppp install
ORBit2 install
libecap0 install
info install
libgettextmisc install
libffi5-devel install

I do realize a normal Synaptic update is a "dist-upgrade", and the test above is not, but I don't know where to determine what dependency is causing the removal.

Not updating, at the moment...

You know what I do pags, I make a live-USB or CD of my current system and then I do the update, especially when it's a major update or something to do with the core system. After the update,I test my system, if there is some kinda problem, I just restore the backup and I'm good to go.
Be very, very kind to your neighbors, but don't take the fence down!

No problem, there.  I just can't do that now, as I'm at work, so it'll have to wait until I have some time.  Although, if this gets "fixed" in the meantime, I'll just updated. ;)

Thanks!

I'm going to lose pdfjam, as well as the tex items, and I do not see an obvious replacement going in its place...

Just checked in Synaptic !
Tetex is still there, so looks like  dependecy errors   (obsoletes?).

It doesn't have pdfjam installed, so it's not being removed, but I'll search for it after the update...

#EDIT#
After the update, I searched for pdfjam, and then tried to install it:

updated yesterday 3 systems, including FM
All seem to be working ( but will update again when that " problem " is fixed )

I didn't notice specifically any kde stuff being updated, but did note the tetex excavation though.  So this message may not even belong in this thread which seems to be kde related somehow.

In my case I let it do it and until amanda ran last night I had no real reason to be concerned.  But amanda had a total failure, with the following message I will also post to the amanda-users list:
===============
Version Amanda 4.0.0alpha.svn.4549
PClos-2012

All backups failed with the following message per DLE in the email:

coyote /CoCo lev 0  FAILED [out of holding space in degraded mode]

An su amanda -c "amcheck Daily" returns this:

Amanda Tape Server Host Check
-----------------------------
Holding disk /usr/dumps: 414988 MB disk space available, using 414488 MB
**
ERROR:glib-util.c:45:glib_init: assertion failed: (!g_thread_supported())
amcheck-device terminated with signal 6Server check took 0.084 seconds

Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check
--------------------------------
Client check: 2 hosts checked in 2.056 seconds.  0 problems found.

(brought to you by Amanda 4.0.0alpha.svn.4549)

Uptime is 3.5 days.

Synaptic, adapted for RPM's did major surgery on the system yesterday
morning and seems to have had no other effects till amanda failed.  It has
not been rebooted (yet), but I'll save this and do so.

Done, error remains.  This is a show stopper for amanda.  The only backup I have used since building my first linux box in 1998.

This is what synaptic did yesterday:

So, what happened to glib-utils?

I rebooted, but the amanda failure remains, exactly as quoted above.

Thanks.

Update:  I saw a fresh tarball of amanda tonight, so I thought I'd put it in, but what I got was a lot more specific error message when the build bailed out, as follows:

libtool: compile:  gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../config -I../gnulib -fno-strict-aliasing -D_GNU_SOURCE -pthread -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib/glib-2.0/include -Wall -Wextra -Wparentheses -Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wmissing-prototypes -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations -Wformat -Wformat-security -Wsign-compare -Wfloat-equal -Wold-style-definition -Wno-strict-aliasing -Wno-unknown-pragmas -g -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -MT amxml.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/amxml.Tpo -c amxml.c  -fPIC -DPIC -o .libs/amxml.o

Clues?

Thanks again.

was there anything I should know, in case I pick up a problem ?

When I saw all the stuff that was to be removed, specifically FontForge, I went through the upgrades list a few packages at a time.

As I suspected, it was TeXLive and TeXLive-mf (I left those for last) that BOTH wanted to trash FontForge, and a whole lot of other stuff.

I am debating a complete removal of TeXLive, as I rarely if ever use it.

For the moment, I'm leaving things as they are, having upgraded everything with the exception of the abovementioned packages.

Clarification on this would be appreciated: dependency errors or what??
