where find the new version of openshot in synaptic
« on: March 05, 2012, 03:28:29 AM »
Hello everybody.

I'm looking for the new 1.4.2 version of openshot, but synaptic does not show it. How can I get it?
Same occurs with another packages. Sorry but I'm newbie with synaptic.
Thanks

Hello and welcome!

Unfortunately, you will have to wait until this version becomes available in PCLinuxOS repos. The same thing applies to all programs. Newer versions of applications are in the hands of a very small team so time is always not enough. So, stick with us and be patient!

You can open a request for the newer version here:

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/board,81.0.html

Be sure to read the rules first!

Have a nice time using the best linux distro so far :)

Thanks for reply.

I tried to manually install openshot, but it has a mandatory dependency with python 2.7, and python 2.7 has mandatory dependency with system libraries. So, I tried to install all dependencies, and the pclos is not running now.  :-[

Where could I stay informed about the repositories upgrade?
Thankyou.

Now you know why we strongly advise against installing software from outside the repository  ;)

If you follow the procedure here http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,63199.msg511493.html#msg511493 your system will be kept up-to-date and you will see what is being updated.

Also in Synaptic you can click the "Status" button in the left panel to see what packages have been added (and also see updates available).

I sent Openshot 1.4.2 to the packagers Dropbox a while ago but it hasn't appeared in the 32 bit repo yet.  You just need to be patient and it will appear  :)

In addition to what Terry wrote, if you want to be notified about available updates, follow these steps:

1. Open the Configure your Computer (PCLinuxOS Control Center)
2. Click on System
3. Click on Manage System Services
4. Check APT to start at boot
5. Click on Start
6. Click OK
7. Open Synaptic Package Manager
8. Install "update-notifier"
9. Configure update notifier according to your needs.

Each time you boot or after the time you specify in its settings, update notifier will check for new updates and inform you accordingly...

Really amazing agmg.

The video editor is not for me, but I need for a classroom. So, this is the "why" I'm interesting in deploy time.

Anyway thankyou very much for replies.

Last version (1.4.2) fix several critical bugs like drop transitions or titles to the timeline and 3D titles rendering with blender. All of this does not work in 1.4.1.

I'll look for alternatives like kdenlive, so this it not easiest like openshot also I experienced problems with firewire video capture.

Thanyou again.

Terry mentioned above that he has already sent it to be included to the repos...
Maybe it will be available in a few days, who knows... :)
