Menu > File Tools > Open Files.
"> Open Files " simply isn't there (had the same problem when I tried to install nautilus: that didn't show up anywhere either)
Run the command:
update-menus
If that doesn't work, look in /usr/share/applications for Open Files (xsearch.desktop). Contents should be:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Open Files
Name[de]=Dateien öffnen
Exec=/usr/bin/xsearch
Comment=List Files & Open it with your default application.
Comment[de]=Listet Dateien & öffnet diese mit den grundlegenden Anwendungen.
Icon=xsearch.png
Terminal=false
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
Categories=Qt;Utility;FileManager;X-MandrivaLinux-System-FileTools;
If the file doesn't match, you will need to correct it -- as root > pcmanfm > tools > open current folder as root.
1. update menus didn't work
2. Find and Open Files was there and contents OK
so, this all didn't work
but experimenting I found 2 ways around it:
1. in pcmanfm I can start it in Places>>Applications>File Tools
2. using xsearch.bin and -.png I could ad it to the applic. on te right side of the desktop
can't hurt, can it??
new problem: hadn't tried it out completely, but wildcards don't seem to work.
the command man xsearch didn't work, so where/how can I find the manual?
have kept trying and found that /media is the lowest level that works. specifying he drive any better returns no results.
is this the way it's supposed to work??
(and wildcards are not necessary)
searching throug the links at the top of the forum (under LXDE articles in our magazine) I downloaded and read the LXDE-part of Gtk-Xfce-LXDE-SE.pdf and this explained a lot of what's going on.
strangely (at the end) a version of pcmanfm is discussed in which Search files is an option under Tools.
can this be revived one way or another??
