Just noted you are in trouble again  ;D  Was there something about the GPS added more ttyUSB ports or something.
Try re-starting the computer hopefully this may remove the extra ports then go back to use ttyUSB2

Then stay away from the GPS.  ;D  The scripting sound more than it is, start looking at what AS wrote about the simple way to start out.

Well I am going to sleep soon. So no more action from me tonight.  :)

I restarted my pc and tried to connect to the net, but no luck.

Then i opened Putty and changed /dev/ttyUSB2 and tried all the USB ports, still no luck. Don`t know how to disable the GPS.

Tried this from the link,

AT!ENTERCND="A710"
AT!CUSTOM="GPSENABLE",0

to disable it. But still not working.

 UPDATE:

I went back through the steps as follows:

Opened up Putty and changed /dev/ttyUSB2 to /dev/ttyUSB3 - then closed it.
Then in terminal under SU typed dhclient -nw wwan0.
Reopened Putty and clicked open and typed AT!SCACT=1,2 - and that worked ! now connected to the net again.

Now i won`t try the GPS again as my connection is working.

There is sense in what you did, I can not see through what may have done the trick. Never mind, what is left is to figure out is, have you left the GPS section open.

Now using Putty what ttyUSBx are you using?

Code: [Select]
ls-l /dev/ttyUSB*
Quote
dmesg |grep USB*

Code: [Select]
dmesg |grep gps

No I am not totally surprised
Until the Sierra 320U gets integrated into kernel we have to be do things a bit manually.

The connection and disconnection part is what we have to set up before you are let go  :)

Your posted details I think tells me that the GPS is disabled, we can look later if following does not work.

1.. Keep doing it with Putty or similar

2.. Make two small files connect320.sh and disconnect320.sh and hope this works

3.. Try and use the python script

I recommend embarking on 2. this is what AS gave an example of and I have suggested two file names as you can see.

First are you interested in linux terminal work, or command line work at all? Or you want to work in Graphics interface ie clicking mouse wildly??

If you are interested in learning a bit more about using the command line I will take you through that way??   ;D  Both ways fine by me

So do i put connect320.sh and disconnect320.sh in the Putty terminal box ?

And i don`t mind using the terminal. i can learn different things that way.

Guys, just interjecting here. derekf, keep track of the exact steps used to make the connection after a reboot. Using that knowledge, you can later create a script to automate the process for you.

It is a little bit more complicated than this, but watch us.  We are now moving away from using a terminal as such when opening/closing.  :D

derekf
No, we are now going to try to avoid using Putty by manipulating the ttyUSBx ports on a low level.

Test here shows we are better using mixed process for you.

Open Kwrite  on your desktop and copy/paste this into the file

Quote
#!/bin/sh
su -c "echo -e "AT!SCACT=1,2\r" > /dev/ttyUSB2

Save the file as connect320.sh to the Desktop for convenience

Then post

Code: [Select]
ls -al $HOME/Desktop/con*
This will allow me to check on you.

Edit: removed the a / in front of $HOME, I think this caused the problem in the following. I was too smart for myself, should have stuck to /home/<user/

 !/bin/sh
su -c "echo -e "AT!SCACT=1,2\r" > /dev/ttyUSB2

did that in kwrite and saved it to Desktop as connect320.sh. when i type ls -al /$HOME/Desktop/con*

ls: cannot access //root/Desktop/con* No such file or directory.

You were logged in as user or as root ?
try:

ls -l /home/<your-user-name>/Desktop/con*

substitute your <your-user-name> with your real user id

I was really caught out here, can you start making sure you always include the prompt when pasting output results. Example

Quote
[gert@KDE-mini-Cprog ~]$ ls -al $HOME/Desktop
total 60
---
---------
-----
[gert@KDE-mini-Cprog ~]$

Is the connect320.sh file visible on the Desktop? I guess my luck is out here, you need to make a shortcut/link to the file, ie have an icon on the desktop which links to the file connect320.sh and when you click on the icon the modem gets connected. (Provided the file is executable.)

The only way I remember to make the shortcut is to open small Dolphin window find the connect320.sh and drag/drop to the Desktop.  I have to say I think this will work.

This file now needs to be made executable and root konsole way of doing this:

Code: [Select]
chmod a+x /home/derek/desktop/connect320.sh
Post result including the prompt

If we are lucky then clicking on the icon will make the connection but the modem state may be unknown, if so we will eventually find out.

We are in good hands as you can see.  :)
