PCLOS & CPU integrated graphics
« on: February 29, 2012, 12:56:33 PM »
Hi, I'm wanting to install PCLOS onto a desktop with an Intel Core i-3 CPU with built in graphics.  I have read that kernel 2.6.38.8 does not support CPU-integrated graphics?  If true, are there newer kernels available which I don't see in the repository.

Hi hightower,

2.6.38.8 is the latest currently available kernel, newer ones will be available when - you guessed it - they're ready.

Dunno if there's any other option.

All that is is good. PCLinuxOS is.

Thinkpad X61 Tablet, Core2Duo 1.66 MHz, 4 GB Ram, Intel onboard Graphics, Plextor PX-256M3 256 GB SSD; Thinkpad R61i, Core2Duo 1.66 MHz, 2 GB Ram, Intel onboard graphics, 120 GB HDD

I believe this has been working in PCLOS with the latest kernel for some time.  As evidenced here:

I could be wrong.  I haven't tried it myself.

Thanks for the info aquila.  The stability of PCLOS is worth the wait, if that's what I must to do.

Thanks Talisman for that link, I hadn't seen it before.  It does sound promising.  I will post back next week after trying PCLOS on that CPU.

:) The CPU graphics of Intel Core i3-2020 is supported by PCLOS kernel 2.6.38.8-pclos3.bfs & .pae.bfs. :)

A different issue arose when I connected the DVD to the first SATA connector.  That connection wouldn't allow the PCLOS iso DVD to load and dropped it to a limited shell.  Placing the boot HDD to SATA0, a second HDD to SATA1 and the DVD appliance to SATA3 resolved that issue.  I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if this issue is motherboard specific or common to SATA connections in general.

PCLOS is running perfectly with this CPU's internal graphics.  Control Center lists Graphic Card as Intel 810 and later.
