XAMPP and Joomla
« on: February 27, 2012, 01:33:44 PM »
Hi,
I'm trying to configure Joomla as a local test.
If downloaded and installed both XAMPP and Joomla
When I try and configure Joomla it wont connect to MYSQL.

If i try stopping and starting XAMPP I get

[rootelocalhost "]• /opt/lampp/lampp stop
Stopping XAMPP for Linux 1.7.7...
XflMPP: XflMPP-flpache is not running.
XAMPP: XAMPP-MySOL is not running.
XAMPP: XAMPP-ProFTPD is not running.
XAMPP stopped.
[rootslocallwst "]• /opt/lampp/lampp start
Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.7.7...
XflMPP: Another web server daemon is already running.
XflMPP: Starting MySQL...
XflMPP: Couldn't start MySQL!
XflMPP: Starting ProFTPD...
XflMPP for Linux started.
[rooteiocalhost |

I cant dind the other daemon that is already running

Any suggestions of how to find it and stop it so XAMPP runs MYSQL ?

Regards

Derek

Try service -s in a console to get a list of all running services. I hope you installed everything from PCLinuxOS repositories.
Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

First and foremost it is NOT recommended to install programs from outside the repository. XAMPP is NOT in the repository (synaptic).
You should of loaded task-lamp and joomla from synaptic.  Best suggestion would be to remove the XMAPP and joomla to you downloaded and installed and install task-lamp and joomla right, using synaptic.  There are reasons that we recommend not to install files from outside the repository, and one of them is a prime example with your request for help here.

That seems better, now into Joomla and the fun begins trying to learn how to build a site.

Thanks again

It is always best to check synaptic first for the program you are interested in, then if it isn't in synaptic place a package request in the package request area for it to be added.  Be sure to read the rules for requesting packages first.

Now that you have task-lamp and joomla installed from synaptic, now if you have issues with it  just ask away and I am sure there are more than a few of us that are willing to help out.
