Thanks for the interest, but I've lost my patience with cloning. I'm going for a fresh install, it will be very time consuming to set it up the way I need it, but at least I know it's going to work. Plus, the latest iso adds some very useful tools.
About corrupted installation... I have successfully installed my remasters on other computers and I never had the slightest issue with this installation, so I'd be surprised... And I
do get exactly the same error with the latest iso when trying to run draklive-install in safe mode (but it does work fine in gui mode). I've checked the md5sum and ran the media check, so it can't be corrupted. I am a little puzzled... maybe the problem lies in the particular laptop somehow? It's not very Linux friendly after all, video and audio need to be set manually in order to work.
Anyway, thank you all for your replies
