Video Editor for CLIPS.FLV needed, like Moyea for Win?
« on: February 29, 2012, 04:28:00 PM »
Hi, everybody! One of the few areas in which Windows is still superior to PCLOS is video clips editing.

Nothing fancy, mind you: basic trimming of unnecessary footage in the beginning and the end of clips.flv from you tube in the FLV format or mp4. Perhaps adding chapters too (which means of course ability to remove a chapter from the middle of the recording). So that with the EXCELLENT DVDStyler one could burn one's own DVDs.

Pity DVDStyler itself lacks such editing functionality ...

Any advise will be appreciated. Thx, rgds

(P.S. I tried Moyea Lite through Wine => WinXP to no avail: IMPORT FLV operation freeses the computer)

For fairly simple options, use Avidemux. You can use either a GTK or a Qt front end. Look for it in Synaptic by its name.

Avidemux is the backend.
You have to install a frontend which is the gui.
You can choose either the qt or gtk version, named appropriately enough, avidemux-qt & avidemux-gtk
 :)
After that you'll find a listing in your start menu under video.
Hope it fits your need.

Exactly. If you use KDE, install the qt package. Otherwise, install the gtk one.

Yes, done, it works!
First  -not knowing the diff-  installed gtk; then  -being KDE- removed it and downloaded / installed qt.
The latter does not give me hints (words) over buttons, but that's OK. Amazingly, Save => Video gives me options for mp4, or avi and other formats.
The results seem to be fine, for basic work like trimming. No chapters, though. Thx, ppl, rgds

My vote goes to Open Shot, does a great job of simple editing and looks like Movie Maker. Give it a try.
