Testers needed: NVIDIA 295.20 Graphics Driver update
« on: February 22, 2012, 03:12:53 PM »
As mentioned here NVIDIA have release version 295.20 Drivers.

I have packaged these drivers and tested that they install correctly but I am unable to test their function as I don't have any modern NVIDIA graphics card that would be supported  :(.  I would prefer people test them before I submit them  ;).  So if any brave soul would like to give them a try:

EDIT:
Now in (testing) repo

Needless to say, this should only be attempted by advanced users  ;) ;D

Terry.

Testing it on 32bit  Seems everything is working: KDE4 effects=ok, nvidia setting is working, tested software: Secrets Mario, XBMC without a issue!

I tried to install the 64 bit version but the module refused to let itself be built against either of my kernels (3.2.6-etjr1 and 2.6.38.8-pclos3). I had to uninstall your rpms and reinstall the 290.10 versions from the repository. I don't know what went wrong as the error messages scrolled by too fast.

32 bit KDE
Nvidia GeForce 550Ti

Installed without incident.

Forgot I had installed it and had restarted my PC a couple of times before I remembered it.

That must be a good sign  :D

Nothing noticeable at all since the installation.

Looks good!

Hey Bald Brick,

do you think you can mix 32 and 64 bit things ? Nope  ;D

How idiotic of me. First I downloaded the wrong rpm, and then I didn't even realize what I had done -- despite the error message.

With the right rpms the module built without any problems.

Sorry, TerryN! And thanks, AS!

There is nothing idiotic here, error happens, mostly I was surprised that you were allowed to install it ... that means there are no specific requirements coded in specfile to prevent such installation.  ;)  Yes, it is a hint for packagers  :D
