2012.2 install went fine. But

Here is what I did. I logged out and back in as "root". I went to /boot/grub/menu.lst. I click on it. It opened, blank. I just did it again. What am I doing wrong???

Don't know ... are you booting from a LiveCD ?

No. Sometime back you gave me some options to try. The one with no local apic seems to work best. So I want to make that the default option.

Hmmm! Looking again at /boot/grub, I find that menulst.old is not correct. It is menu.lst.old. Could it be that is the file used. The ".old" is ignored.

When I go to PCC and click on Boot I can find a menu list the looks like the one I see when I start the computer. on the right there are options to
Add
Modify
remove
arrow up arrow down
If I move the option I want to make default to the top, will that work?
