Still testing both TEST-NOLAPIC and TEST-NOAPIC.  But I think I have found something interesting.  I have a habit of leaving a thumb drive plugged in when I turn the computer off.  If it is still plugged in when I turn the computer on it takes much longer for Pclos to boot.  Yes most of the time we were trying different things it was plugged in.  But removing it made a big difference in boot time.

Yes, interesting, but probably a completely different issue ...

Office required Windows XP or better, so I installed PCLinuxOS :D

remember that when you are connected thru a USB hub, the total bandwidth is shared across all devices connected to the hub.  ;)

Well after all this time since 2/21/2012 I decided to edit my "menu.lst".  I was going to make "title TEST-NOAPIC
kernel (hd0,4)/boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=TEST-NOAPIC root=UUID=9b10f7c2-e1ce-4d55-bc27-e900b6849be2 splash=verbose nokmsboot vmalloc=256M resume=UUID=4d65bcd3-0be1-49e9-b9d5-9fb09f4749a5 vga=788 nolapic
initrd (hd0,4)/boot/initrd.img" the default option.  But when I opened the file "menu.lst" it was blank.  I then opened menulst.old it read like the original one.  Where is the one that shows up when I boot???

it is:
Code: [Select]
/boot/grub/menu.lst
and you have to su to root to access it.

Here is what I did.  I logged out and back in as "root".  I went to /boot/grub/menu.lst.  I click on it.  It opened, blank.  I just did it again.  What am I doing wrong???

No.  Sometime back you gave me some options to try.  The one with no local apic seems to work best.  So I want to make that the default option.

Hmmm!  Looking again at /boot/grub, I find that menulst.old is not correct.  It is menu.lst.old.  Could it be that is the file used.  The ".old" is ignored.

When I go to PCC and click on Boot I can find a menu list the looks like the one I see when I start the computer.  on the right there are options to
Add
Modify
remove
arrow up   arrow down

If I move the option I want to make default to the top, will that work?
