2012.2 install went fine. But

Grandpa:
After several months of not being able to boot my kde 2011.9(I think it was 2011.9).  I decided to stop waiting on the 64bit version and install kde 2012.2.  I had tried several other versions of kde PCLinuxOS.  All would leave me at "localhost" login.  However PCLinuxOS Gnome MMXll would boot.  I was going to use that, but could not bring myself to leave kde.  Yesterday I came upon "AS" instructions

"Also, at LiveCD Grub prompt, press F6 (options) remove the option "quiet" and change "splash=silent" to "splash=verbose", you will have a chance to see what is going on"

I tried that and the live c-d of 2012.2 would boot.  Today I installed it.  I only wanted to install "/".  I have done that in the pass.  I don't lose any data that way.  So again today that is what I did.  Everything went along fine.  when the Grub menu came up I changed the first option to read "PClinuxOS 2012.2.  Saved that and rebooted after removing the c-d when told to.
Now the grub login screen comes up and reads as follows.
PClinuxOS 2012.2
Boot PClinuxOS Safe mode
Boot Windows
Now the problem!!!
If I click on either one of the first two options the first thing I see is "Can not open file. delete".  If I click on "boot windows" Win 7 will boot.  Finally after hours shaking my head wondering what the he** to do next I tried again to boot this time pressing "f3" for Kernel Options and selecting "Safe Settings".  If I then select the option to boot "PClinuxOS 2012.2 I get the same message "can not open file delete".  But if I choose "Safe mode" I also get the same screen, but after a few seconds it starts up again and boots into 2012.2 kde PClinuxOS.  Everything looks as it should all my data is there like I wanted.  I went to synaptic and updated.  I also installed Liberoffice.  The only thing the scroll wheel on the mouse does not work.  Need to work on that.
I need some help on how to boot without having to press "f3" etc.
I know this very long of a post but I wanted it to be clear what I did and how I did it from the start.  Hope I didn't just muddy the waters to much.  Any help on the two problems would be very much appreciated.  Thanks for your time reading this and your replies.

Just17:
How long did you wait after seeing the "Can not open file. delete" message?

That message is common ......  has been on every boot I made for quite some time, and can be ignored.

Grandpa:
Will reboot and time the wait.  Thanks for the reply.

I used the stopwatch on my cell phone.
After 3 min 14 sec. this message came.
Call Trace:
[<c0439408>] ? panic+0x66/0x161
[<c0140f3e>] ? do_exit+0x74e/0x750
[<c014116e>] ? do_group_exit0x3e/0xa0
[<c01411e8>] ? sys_exit_group+0x180x20
[<c043c968>] ? syscall_call+0x7/0xb
I waited another 9 min(had to copy this down) nothing happen.  This is what I got using both options to boot PClinuxOS.  I then did the f3 thing and booted back into PClinuxOS.

apparently it is a kernel panic ... (kernel crashed) ... if so you should see the keyboard leds blinking ...
and that doesn't happen if you use "splash=verbose" and remove the "quiet" option, correct ?

Grandpa:
You are right on the leds blinking.  I had never noticed that before.  The rest about "splash=verbose and quiet i don't know.  When I press f3 I then choose "safeboot".  There are different things that show up on that line.  But I don't know how to see things that I can't see.  Boy that sounds dumb.  What I am trying to say is there is more written then you can see.  How do you move along that.  Can't seem to get the cursor down there.
