Where do the new app's go?(SOLVED)

Hello,

Have installed Iced Latte on a HP Presario desktop with 256Mb RAM and it ticks along nicely, but one of several questions I have around this little treasure has cropped up.
I updated, then added GSSHFS file share via Synaptic. It doesn't appear in the PCC> anywhere. I checked the Help library and found some to me deeply mysterious command syntax mentioned which I think contains my answer.
Could someone help please with some plain English explanation of the process, or direct me to an owner's manual?

Use this simple command:     
update-menus     

Add --help to see the options ---     
[neal@thecoffeeshop ~]$ update-menus --help
Usage: update-menus [options]
  -v                     Be verbose about what is going on.
  -u  generate only user menu (useful for root user)
  -h, --help             This message.
[neal@thecoffeeshop ~]$
