Tooltips pop up changed and theme settings
« on: February 20, 2012, 08:17:03 AM »
I noticed a strange thing... After changing to another theme all of the Tooltip popup's, when hovering with the cursor over the Phoenix Menu for example, show up in right lower corner at the bottom panel instead of showing up on the place where they should.

Also another thing i have noticed is that one can't change the window buttons layout on the Phoenix 2011 theme, it seems to be inactive or locked. When changing the window theme to another it works.

This is also the case in Phinx. Couldn't post it on the forum there because the site seems offline.

The ones that came with Phoenix 2012.2, so 2010 and 2009 theme. Also used Shiki brave from the repo. Didn't remove the .gtkrc2-0 file from home.
Must i try removing it?

Ok, here's what i've done and noticed: I did a new install, pulled in the few updates that were there and activated the compositor. All was fine with the Tooltip popups until i fired up the laptop just now. Without changing a theme this time they show up in right lower corner at the bottom panel.

I also checked the button layout again in the Window manager from the live session and the real install, it seems that the window buttonslayout which you normally can change are locked from the very beginning with the Phoenix 2011 theme.

Darkera, can you post a screen shot of what you are seeing?  It might make it a little easier to tell exactly what you are getting it.

At least it will for me, as I am a visual person.

Ok, i'm still a bit 'fed up' about this strange behaviour concerning the Tooltips popping up on the wrong place instead showing on the place where they should show up.... right next to the mouse when hovering over a app or menu for example. Up to now i couldn't solve the problem and i certainly don't have a hardware issue or even think it's related to one.

I wont stop until we can get this small issue solved. Always willing to learn... LOL  :D :) ;D.

So... i took some pic's with the camera to show what i mean:

This is on the laptop running Phoenix again at the moment to show the problem, it has a nVidia card and uses the prop driver. The mouse pointer is on the Phoenix Menu on the Top Panel but the tooltip popup shows on the bottom panel in the right corner:

This is taken from my netbook that is running Phinx. Intel graph card onboard, showing the tooltip popup right on the place where it should be and always has been before:

When i install Phinx on the same laptop and install the prop nVidia driver after that, i get the same problem as in Phoenix concerning the tooltip popup at the wrong place.
Don't know what causes this problem... the Nividia driver maybe?

Alright, disable compositing.  See if that makes a difference.

Tried that already. Even rebooted. ;)

I came across a post on the Phinx forum from a while back when i ran Phinx on the same laptop after installing the nvidia driver, i remember all was fine before the 290.XX driver. After the updates it had the same problem. I still blame the nVidia driver for it but i'm not going to disable that one, the laptop needs it. :)

Ok.... i find this very strange. I just have installed audacious changed the localhost name, logged out and rebooted. Now some of the tooltips show in the right place again.......  ??? Except for some opened apps like Xchat.

Or, it is nVidia playing parts with this system... or the setting aren't stored right from time to time... Well, it's all a riddle to me what is going on here.

Later edit: After more than a hour i fired up this machine again. The problem remains as said the first time.  :-\

This does appear to be some sort of issue with the NVidia driver.  Looking through the settings there is not much that would affect something like this - just a random compositing error.

Do you know which model of Nvidia card you have?
