I followed your directions
"Also, at LiveCD Grub prompt, press F6 (options) remove the option "quiet" and change "splash=silent" to "splash=verbose", you will have a chance to see what is going on"
Would you believe 2012.2 booted. I guess I will now install it tomorrow. Time to go to bed now. Thank you for your help even if you didn't know you were helping me.

I know that the first boot may be kinda slow ... and if you don't see some progressing you may think it doesn't boot ...
Other than that, whenever there could be a real problem, you should have an hint about what is going wrong ...
