Mic problems.
« on: February 19, 2012, 03:20:23 PM »
Fresh install of the 2012 release, using the pae bfs kernel.

Google voice doesn't seem to work with my mic anymore. It worked at first, but mysteriously quit. I seem to have some sort of permanent loopback happening while the mic is plugged in. Other audio works fine, I can hear gvoice calls, but I cannot talk. Recording audio with audacity works. I'm not sure where to even start to fix this :( Any ideas?

Hi Nys,

Assuming you mean recording from mic, it means that your mic actually works. Try to install qasmixer, and check for possible settings missed on default kmix.

Pull all sliders up and check for muted ones

I have checked the sliders, using the control panels, and alsamixer, and it's not having any effect. As I said, I can still record with audacity, so I know the mic is working. It's just the google voice plugin that doesn't seem to be able to open the mic.

And, the mic seems to be open permanently, if that makes any sense. Like, I can tap on the mic, and get feedback through the speakers. I've had this problem for a few months now, and it's the only thing keeping me on dual boot. I would love to ditch my win partition alltogether.

Another note, is that I do not seem to have this problem with buntu 11 at all. But I really don't want to run that OS. :(

might be a long shot, but open pclinuxos control center. then 'hardware', 'sound configuration'. do you have pulseaudio running? it can be ornery. try it with/without. reboot with each change.
good luck
