Live LXDE-2012.01----------------3 (newbie-) questions
« on: February 18, 2012, 05:58:30 AM »
hi

very fast and complete!! fantastic!!

but

1. if I put the panel on the top the menu does not display (just a blank recktangle in the lowerleftcorner)

2. in the panel the windows of both desktops are displayed. can this be set to be only per desktop?

3. cannot configure my printer. if I click on the setup nothing happens (LPT1-printer on or off does not matter)

thx in advance

Hi, and welcome to PCLinuxOS.

To 1, it is a bug...

To 2 right click on panel, and make what ever you like to set  ;)

To 3, open synaptic, click on reload, make upgrades,
search for Task printer, install it.

Open pcc and configure your printer...

thx for your quick reply

ad 1. left iso top also works for me (for the time being)!

ad 2. perfect!! had not tried this (missed the top-option completely)!

ad 3. think I did as you told, in pcc the icon now has color and opens the window, but I can“t add a printer!!
        did I miss anything??

found that CUPS is not running because via Help I got:

        CUPS Service Stopped

The CUPS print spooler does not appear to be running. To correct this, choose System->Administration->Services
from the main menu and look for the 'cups' service.

        starting the webservice didn't work

         what to do?

thx in advance

Sorry if I missed this ... but did you install "task-printing" from Synaptic? You most likely won't be able to set up printing until you do.

thx,

"On Boot" was ticked, but the service HAD stopped running. restarting it made a lot more possible: the printer was detected etc and I was able to install it. printing a testpage however proved difficult: had to press the big button on the printer (HP Lj2200 duplex) a couple of times for the print to happen succesfully. and, I can't tell the printer which tray to use, it always picks the bottom one.

Hmmm. No wonder you're having some problems. You can't keep any changes made to a live session after a reboot. What problems does the hard drive have? Do you have any USB drives?

I know a reboot means a fresh start (a restart of the session should pose less problems).
the hd (80 GB) is not reckognised with a USB-interface, still have to try directly on an IDE-port.
