Hmm...... reinstall any other icon themes you have installed and reinstall your GTK themes.

I have also found that if I log in as root, all the icons are present, but if I log in as any of the two users on this system the icons are absent.
that makes sense kizito because after the updates yesterday which caused my icons in my LXDE 2011 install to disappear, AWN gave me an error trying to access /usr/share/icons. apparently there is a permissions problem with icons after the updates.

@ melodie, I think the reason LXDE issues popped up in this thread is because of the openbox updates recently which affect LXDE installs.
Good things come in small packages. From small minds, not so much.

@Melodie and LKJ

Yes I am talking about an LXDE install, for the reasons LKJ says.

LKJ, thanks for the suggestion, my /usr/share/icons directory had permissions
Code: [Select]
drwx------. I have changed these to
Code: [Select]
drwxr-xr-x and now all the icons are back  :)

Thanks everybody for all the assistance.

Hi,

Yesterday I have fully updated a Lxde recent install and I just booted it now. I have looked at the menus : no problem. All icons are there.

The update shows one package available, it's hicolor-icon-theme (version 0.12-1pclos2011). I'll install it to see what happens and will be back right away to say if I see a difference after install.

/ I have updated it, and did logout/in, also shutdown. booted again, no difference : all icons are there and nothing has broken. I failed finding the source of the problem.
