[Solved] How to update VirtualBox?

I been using VirtualBox to host M$ XP for some small basic programs.  Of late I've been getting the message:

   A new version of VirtualBox has been released! Version 4.1.8 is available at virtualbox.org.
   You can download this version using the link:
   hxxp://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html

My question is since we always download from Synaptic, do I just rerun the script getvirtualbox?
Or is there another way to update VirtualBox I am unware of?

In the PCLinuxOS menu, go to More Applications > Emulators > Get Oracle VM VirtualBox. That will download and install version 4.1.8.

Thank you - I was unsure if that was just an install, not knowing it was both install and/or update.

Just finish doing the above, worked like a dream.

Don't forget to update the guestadditions as well, the VM will still work but should work better with the corresponding VBoxGuestAdditions.iso

The 4.1.8 extensions pack (if extension pack is installed) seems to update automatically.

The GuestAdditions need to match the currently installed version and for that reason are always updated from within the getvirtualbox script.

Yep.  but the point I was making is that the guestadditions do not get installed in the VM automatically. They have to be manually installed.

not true, if you use getvirtualbox then they will get installed automatically because I have coded it that way

How do the guest additions become installed inside say a WinXP VM automatically.

My experience say that the old version remains until the new version is installed.  The VBoxAdditions.iso file is certainly updated by yuour script.

The VM (winxp, win2000) has to be running inside Virtual Box then the user (me) has to install the current version. You may put the current version into Virtual Box, but the end user still needs to install it into a running VM-- at least a windows one.

To much work pinoc!    (someone is keeping you very busy ... mozilla, libreoffice, ....  )

As side note, the guest additions available in repos are  4.1.4, probably should be removed.
