JohnW_57,

I think what Archie is trying to say is that the Razor-Qt 0.4.1 rpms he just packaged were meant only for 64 bit test installs. Like Archie, I'm surprised you got the packages to install on 32 bits. I didn't even try.

@djohnston. hmmp ... and i thought the right-click on the desktop was what you were doing all along. it didn't occur to me that you might be trying to setup the desktop wallpapers via the desktop configurator.

@JohnW_57 i am surprised you were able to logon to the razor-qt session on i586. i really didn't expect that at all on my RPMS.

It's been a while since this thread was updated. I am still watching the development Razor-Qt and I get the feeling that the developers are gearing up for the next release. I've downloaded the latest development version from git, packaged and installed. It looks like Razor-Qt has a new Configuration Center and a number of settings modules.

I've also managed to remove the underlying Openbox requirement and now just have Default, KDE, etc. and Razor Desktop on my KDM Session Manager. I am still waiting for the promised standalone KWin that I'm sure will be the biggest advantage of Razor-Qt. Everything else, including Desktop Effects, work. Even Piedock (app launcher and windows manager), which I absolutely love is working. Oh, and I am on 32-bit. ;)

It is installed on top of my test install ... naturally, KDE. Sorry, dude. The packages are just personal a personal preview of what the Razor-Qt developers had cooking. As I mentioned in my previous post, I have a strong feeling they're getting ready for Zero Point Five. I don't have a test ISO ...

I wish Martin would hurry up on the standalone Kwin and that's gonna be wicked with Razor-Qt.

Yes ......  that is the REALLY interesting one ........  using the present version from the repo I find it uncomfortable as I am never sure what it is going to do if I change something  :D

I am delighted to note that the openbox dependency can be omitted .......  that is part of my confusion I think.

Razor-Qt Desktop Still Being Developed, v0.5 Is Near

While there hasn't been a new release since February, like the Trinity KDE 3.5 fork, the Razor-qt desktop environment continues to be actively developed. Razor-qt 0.5.0 will be released soon.

Razor-qt 0.4.1 is the latest stable release from February, but new code continues to be checked into this Qt-powered desktop on a near-daily basis. The commit activity to Razor-qt is available from its GitHub repository.

Razor-qt was announced last year as a lightweight, easy-to-use, fast desktop built upon Qt. "It has been tailored for users who value simplicity, speed, and intuitive interface. Unlike desktop environments, Razor-qt also works fine with weak machines."

Based upon recent commits, Razor-qt 0.5.0 should be near with a version 0.4.99 release candidate being tagged in Git just three days ago. There's also just two open issues for the 0.5 blocker per the mailing list discussion.

Among the changes coming up for Razor-qt 0.5.0 is a new LightDM greeter (razor-lightdm-greeter), razor-notificationd for handling desktop notifications, a razor-appearance GUI for supporting configuration theming, razor-globalkeyshortcuts for providing desktop shortcut configuration, better XDG standards support, a new implementation of configuration files, better integration with window managers from fvwm family, performance optimizations on the desktop, a notepad desktop widget, many new panel plug-ins, and much more.
