Squeezebox server - how to install it?
« on: February 11, 2012, 06:39:15 PM »
I've just been given a Squeezebox Duet.  I've checked Synaptic and see that there are two packages: squeezeboxserver 7.4.1-1 and squeezecentre 7.4.1-1pclos2010.

Squeezeboxserver installed, but I can't find it to open it, and when I tried to install squeezecentre, I got a message saying, "Could not mark all packages for installation or upgrade.  The following packages have unresolvable dependencies.  Make sure all required repositories are added and enabled in the preferences: squeezecentre."

I've checked the forums and found that this might indicate a broken link, and found this topic:  http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,77429.0.html in which coffeetime uninstalled 7.4.1-1 via synaptic and installed 7.5.1 from the squeezebox site.

I have downloaded the rpm package from the squeezebox site, and it is sitting in my home/downloads folder.  Problem is that I don't know what to do next.

Can anyone help me, please?

Thank you.

I have   logitechmediaserver 7.7  installed and it works fine with my squeezebox radio.

I believe it is the new name for the squeezeboxserver/squeezecentre apps.

Thank you for your reply.

I see that logitech media server is not available through Synaptic.  Did you down load it off the website?  If so, how did you install it?

I'm afraid I'm not up with how to do these things, so I'd appreciate a step by step description, if you can.

Can you please post the name of the file that you have downloaded please?

I apologise, I thought the logitechmediaserver package was in the PCLOS repository.  :(

Before getting into the installation, I must point out a few things ....

Before installing any software, you should update your install completely.
There are threads about this on the forum which you need to read.
Essentially it involves launching the package manager (Synaptic), Reload, Mark All Updates, and Applying them. Do this action weekly to keep your install properly updated.

The second thing to be noted is that installing software that is not available from the repository is discouraged. This is because the installed software has not been checked in PCLOS and some such software can cause problems .....  and no one will know why, so your install would be unsupportable. There are threads on this also which should be read for information purposes.

The command to be executed needs to be done from a terminal, as root .......

rpm -Uvh logitechmediaserver-7.7.0-1.noarch.rpm

The above installs the RPM I have installed here.
If you have a different RPM then the name needs to change to reflect that.

It would be best if you posted the name of the file you have before installing it, just to be sure.
