It appears that you not only played with the hardware, as you said in your first post, but with the configuration settings too  ;D

To me it looks like you're missing a couple of lines from your fstab that should read

# Entry for /dev/sdb1
UUID=312f0be9-5d2f-4e43-b7f2-cfd850bc63e3 /home ext2 defaults 1 2

I did? I was trying to install a new hard drive, must have fubarred it then.

Still not sure if I should just reinstall from MyLiveCD and then update all of the file systems while I'm at it.

If I do that, what file system should I use? When I installed the new HD usins ext4, it now appears only as a file in/root instead of aas a hard drive that contains file.

I'm so confused!

So I should add this to the fstab file ?

+1

copy & paste the above entry at the end of the file /etc/fstab, then reboot

Now, should I change/update the file system of the discs or just leave well enough alone?

EDIT: To update the file system, you'll need to format the partitions. So if you are planning a re-install, you should format all the partitions to ext3 or ext4. ext4 is considered stable and I guess most of us are using ext4. (was incorrect)

Not sure if ext4 has big performance advantages over ext2 though. You might read up on this and decide for yourself.

btw - you're welcome. Enjoyed the froggy :D :D

You can convert ext2 to ext3 or ext4 without reformatting and reinstalling.

I'd like to switch to ext3 but am a bit apprehensive with this (still feeling a bit numb from my last fubar experience).

Can I upgrade to ext3 using the KDE Partition Manager?

Boot a PCLinuxOS liveCD, open a terminal, su to root, and enter the command;

[root@localhost ~]# tune2fs -j /dev/<whatever>                  <Enter>

Replace <whatever> with the actual device designation, first sda1, then enter the command again using sdb1. That will take care of converting both your / partition and your /home partition.
