Hi,
LKJ, I might not have understood, or maybe did I ? Do you try to see icons in LXDE ? You can't have icons in the Openbox right-click menu unless you have an additional program which makes them appear. In the versions with no desktop manager there is the program openbox-menu and the configuration files (ready as a package and also provided updates on the forum recently) which take care of using the feature.

hi, no actually there are no icons in the pop-up menu from the lxpanel. I actually prefer that but I was just confirming todays updates caused a few problems. and as I mentioned this was in the LXDE 32bit install I have. I believe LXDE is a desktop manager.  ;D
Good things come in small packages. From small minds, not so much.

LXDE is a desktop environment, Lou, not a desktop manager.

All,
If you install openbox-menu on LXDE, you will have problems. This is intended for use with Openbox.

I would like to say respectfully that I disagree. The program openbox-menu will not hurt any desktop environment, not even LXDE. Just that it has really no utility in a PCLinuxOS Lxde which has already all what it needs, menus, gui's to configure anything, session manager... It's only interest is when a user doesn't have anything else to have menus managed automatically.

Some could object that PCLinuxOS Openbox however has a Lxpanel... I have taken the decision to add it some time ago after I installed one on a friend's machine who had known Windows only... and needed something approaching what she had known. In Openbox it's a piece of software meant to giving confidence to the newcomers.

Regards,
Mélodie

Disagree all you want, Melodie. I was speaking from experience. When openbox-menu is installed on LXDE, parts of desktop control are disabled. Other parts do not work well. Experience, Melodie. I'm not talking out of some guesswork.

you say tomato and I say tomato...hmmm that doesn't work so well in text  :D ;D. I won't argue about DEs vs DMs vs WMs. I don't have openbox-menu installed in LXDE.   :)

It only works, if your install is broken, but it is a useful command to remember - just in case it might be needed.

I understand. I ran it in case it helped my broken Shutter which quit working after I updated yesterday. It didn't obviously.

When openbox-menu is installed on LXDE, parts of desktop control are disabled.

It is disabled if you disable the Lxde default desktop menu in the Desktops Preferences section. And this will happen with or without openbox-menu installed.

Other parts do not work well. Experience, Melodie. I'm not talking out of some guesswork

Could you please give some details ? What parts do not work well in a Lxde with openbox-menu installed ? If a bug exists in the program then the developer should now about it and a bug report should be filled here : https://code.google.com/p/mimarchlinux/issues/list

Thanks.

It disables default desktop menu for LXDE on installation. The user doesn't need to do any disabling.

There were 2 or 3 threads about problems encountered after installing openbox-menu on LXDE. In one of them, you said you were going to send a bug report.

there seems to be a difference between the LXDE 2011 and 2012 installs. In the 2012 install I did yesterday the icons show in menus, in the updated 2011 install they don't. I don't know why.

Hi kizito,
Now I am lost : are you talking about a Openbox install or a Lxde install ? I am seeing posts about both now so I don't know anymore.

Have you compared the /root/.gtkrc-2.0 and the /home/kizito/.gtkrc-2.0 files ? What were the packages you got in your last update ? (incase of need : look in Synaptic, > menu files > history)

To Neal : I have looked at Lxde section and found threads where openbox-menu is talked about, one problem was a user mistake, with a pic from djohnston showing where the error came from and the others also unrelated to openbox-menu. Also I didn't find any post where I have mentioned I would post a bug report so I can't use your information. Can you find the link ?
