Intel HD audio is low...help!

Hello, my audio seems to be really low..

I am running the cards below and hoping that someone may be able to give me an idea..Pulse audio is enabled.  Have KMix and Gmixer (someone recommended this in a past thread) both installed.  KDE install.

Everything is updated.  Still low audio.

Are you using pavucontrol to get access to the volume controls?
If not, install it and try there first.


I suggest Qas from the repository .......  that should give you access to everything, so that adjusting things while playing an audio file might help you find which setting affecting it is turned down.

It very well may be something you do not associate with the problem.

Just 18, installed pavucontrol and qas. 

pavucontrol only says "connection failed: connection refused" when launched.  Any idea what the workaround maybe?

yes, it is enabled through system control.

 "connection failed: connection refused"  ......  I have only seen this error when PulseAudio is not properly running.

I suggest the following to see if it would help .....

turn off PulseAudio in PCC - Hardware - Sound Configuration

reboot the PC immediately

then without doing anything else or launching any other app

use Synaptic to install (or reinstall) task-pulseaudio

When done, go to PCC - Hardware - Sound Configuration

and enable PulseAudio

Reboot immediately.

On arriving at the Desktop this time, launch pavucontrol and see if the error still presents itself.

Hopefully that will sort things .....  please report back on the results.

Hi jmm - just to discount it from the mix - if you select the KMix icon and choose Mixer is the PCM slider turned up? (and possibly check the Master slider as well)

And if you're in kmix, open its settings menu and see if there are any channels not shown. Drag them across to the right pane and then see if they need turning up.

Hmmmm .....  that is a problem you need to attend to in the long run .... and would be best in a separate thread I think.

Qas mixer from the repository will show a lot of information as well as all the adjustment ......  in fact for most of us it is information overload!

Nonetheless, a lot if users have located their problems by going through the info available in this.

If PulseAudio is enabled then Kmix is useless for finding adjustments etc .....  essentially it displays only the PulseAudio settings.

Qas is the answer IMO .....  as well as getting PA fixed of course.
