But how do you explain the difference in the sound quality of my recording? It sounds "tinny" when I play it back, & I never saw this happen on my old computer.

I confirm this is happening on my machine too, also on mine, the record levels turns off periodically, so the recording cuts off several times. I never experienced this before. Of course, in not using Pulse Audio. I wonder if it doesn't have anything to do with the Phonon controller?  ??? Although, I tried every setting for the Phonon and no improvement. :'(

The problem the thread was started to solve is

I can't record in stereo with Audacity on my laptop.

It now seems that the source of the recordings may well be Mono which explains why there is no stereo in the recording.

Wow, sorry Just18, I didn't mean to go off subject, I apologize, my bad.

That is not what I meant  :D

You have several symptoms which are not relevant to the reason for this thread, and as such they deserve a thread of their own  ;)

@ Just18

A few days ago I installed pulso audio.
It was a big screw-up for me, and I told you already I will try again.
That will happen this Sunday. ( on a separate partition )

Will it be OK to ask for some advice and guidance from you on this matter.
My ability to think/reason clearly is not what it used to be years ago.

Thanks
Xena

I have set it up in a separate install, and it works.
There are still a few things which I have to figure out, but I can manage.

However, I have decided to stay with audacity ( with my loop-back wire ) as this is the most familiar way for me.
And being short of time ( for now ) , I will shelve the gnome sound recorder for some time.
Later, when time is ample, I will play with it again, at the same time when I investigate ardour, rosegarden, muse, denemo, lilypond and a few others.

" When time is ample " will be when I break both legs at the same time, or one straight after the other  ::) ::) ::)
So much to do, so little time   :'(

At least you have proven to yourself that PA does work and can do what you require should you decide to use it.  ;)

A little familiarity with PA will be helpful if/when you decide it is for you.

Next month holiday period starts here in this province, and every year it's the same thing !
More and unscheduled lessons. So, $$ first , music later !    ;D ;D

Thanks for the support.
