What I actually meant was, in the not to distant past , I was using....
So, I thought it is working......wrong....it was working

 Well, " right now " I have no sound ?
I tried to record ( just for fun ) . Its recording , as I can see the created file.
I can save it, but there is no playback sound..... ???

EDIT: going to open a new tread about this gnome app...soon

About audacity 1.3.13  : This is a beta, and the selection toolbar is disabled.
So, how to select  >:(

If you are using Pulse Audio, make sure you have pavucontrol installed; gnome-recorder will record its default stream; start gnome-recorder, and on the recording tab of pavucontrol select the stream to be recorded. If a stream called 'monitor of xxx' is available then that is the one to select.

For instance if I wish to record what is going to the speakers then I record from 'Monitor of Internal Audio Analogue Stereo' ...... or from the webcam MIC it will be a direct recording from 'USB2.0 UVC Camera Analogue Mono'.

There is also a facility within Pulse Audio which allows the user to create their own loopback devices .....  not something I have felt the need to play with, but it is  available .....

Had no luck so far following your instructions.
I have to admit that I am not sure what I am doing, and I think I better read a thing or two before I carry on.
For now I have something like very faint music on top of a lot of noise
So, I will postpone this for X weeks till I got more time for playing around.
Or maybe install pclos in a different partition and mess around there till I know what I am doing !

Right now, I found the settings which I used before in Audacity with the loop-back from audio-out to audio-in and it's working properly.
So, there is no hurry.
But I still want to do same without my loop-back.

Hey, It's Me Again,

You might try setting up similar to me and seeing if it works for you.  (Works for me...)  I had to fiddle with the Capture settings in KMix until I got it right, and your sound system is different, so maybe that's a problem.  I found that, for my hardware, OSS seems to give better results than ALSA. Your mileage may, of course, vary.

You might also, since your objective was to record audio from Youtube, look at YouTube to MP3 1.2.3 (it's a Firefox extension).  It does a direct conversion of the audio to MP3, purportedly at high quality.

I have just started the task of converting my vinyl collection to mp3 and using Audacity. I have only been able to get sound using the headphone out on my hi-fi and mic in on my laptop. I am getting reasonable quality recordings, including lots of pops and crackles, but to get Audacity to record was a bit of trial and error so Audacity isn't the easiest to setup but it does the job once you have tweaked the settings.

As said above, with looping it works on my hardware.

Tomorrow or Friday, I will try the Gnome recorder.
It has been working in the past, so I must get it to work now too.

I borrowed a turntable that plugs into the back of my hi-fi using audio in jacks and then switched the hi-fi to Aux function. There is the usb turntable option and you should be able to pick up a cheap one somewhere, although I don't know if it works as I haven't tried. You might be able to pick up a used turntable on that online auction site.

Anyone know where I get gnome-recorder from, I can't find it in the repo?

Yes, look for Gnome-media. Install that and recorder will be there

I got one a couple of years ago which plays 78s, 45s and 33.33  records.

Record from that and do the processing of the files afterwards ....  de-clicking etc

I've already installed an addon to make mp3s from YouTube, so I'll see how it goes when I try it.

gnome-recorder, records most mediums for me, but not from the Hydrogen Drum Machine. This is actually what I need most. Bummer!  :'( :'(
