Definitely with hal.  Without hal the mount/unmount doesn't work.  So far on OB and LXDE that's been the case, and on KDE minime as well.  As PCLinuxOS has hal as an integral part of the system then that is what we live with.  We will just have to package it specific to this distro - won't be the only one!

Then I suppose that was how 0.6.3 was packaged.

Life is never slow in the fast lane!  Spacefm is now upto 0.7.0.  I haven't checked what the changes are yet, but curiously in the .deb packages there are both hal and non-hal versions supplied.  Looks like we are not the only ones will hal dependencies.  Their manual has now been extended as well - http://spacefm.sourceforge.net/spacefm-manual-en.html.

Hi, I have seen the new version too. I have looked at the changelog but didn't understand it all.
It seems to me natural that a distro having 3 steps of development use both with and without hal.

A note to the unwary - you'll never guess how I found this out

When you drag and drop files with spacefm, you MOVE them, not COPY them.  It's actually what the old Mac system did, something I used to be familiar with.  If you want to copy then copy/paste is probably the go.  I haven't looked into the prefs on this yet - just got my 'puter running again.

So how did I find this out?  I "copied" the three OB files from .config/openbox to a usb stick.  Used them elsewhere.  On booting the 'puter this morning I found myself staring at a blank screen and a minimal right-click menu.  After the cold sweat cleared I suddenly recalled the copy/move behaviour, dropped into shell, mounted the stick and copied them back.  Whew!!  All's well that ends well!

I never drag'n drop files, I use cp in console, or mc for this types of tasks. Occasionnally a right-click in guy copy → right-click → paste. Not familiar with drag'n drop.

So I would not have found out.

So, where do we go with spacefm from here?  The latest version is 0.7.0 - details at http://igurublog.wordpress.com/.  Do we run with a packaged version of that with hal enabled?  Has it been tested enough on various DEs and WMs to warrant its inclusion into the repos?  Do we have a consensus here?

I personally am more than happy with it, and have been using it as my default FM since I found it three weeks ago.

Been busy. I will package 0.7.0 and post a link to the RPM, y'all do a quick test and if all's good, I'll send it upstream. Good plan?

Thanks Archie - downloaded and in place.  One query - when I insert a usb stick I get a double entry in the device pane.  I had noticed in the 0.6.3 version.  Has anyone come across this before I post in the spacefm bug section?

It has not been tested enough yet, imo. I would suggest to let it in testing for a few weeks or months until enough people say it didn't break anything. I have started a Archlinux where the hal problem does not exist, to see how it goes there, and of course there it works well. Here I am not sure of what goes on, but since a week or so I can't see any partition in any of my file managers anymore. I will not say it comes from spacefm, it could be anything else, but I think being careful can not hurt.

I have no problems with taking things carefully.  Regarding FMs and partions - I keep Pcmanfm as a backup FM and I have had no problems with its operation in conjunction with Spacefm.  Spacefm is set up to run the "desktop" and set wallpaper.

You don't have gvfs installed?  It is in my Bonsai - I imagine that is default.  I checked, plus also installed develop pkg, but it did not solve my issue.  I still have the problem of two entries for one external device in the device pane.  If I pull it straight out again without mounting one entry remains.  If I click on that to mount/unmount Spacefm closes.  I think I will post this to their bug reports.

Assuming we get the bugs squashed, what is the procedure for getting into the testing repo?  Would be nice to have a broad brush applied to the testing process.

I don't get a double entry on mount and umount on KDE. However, clicking the same icon twice crashes spacefm.
