Okay, just so I understand:

1. You have two separate installations? One is LXDE and one is Openbox?
2. You reboot to change from one desktop to the other?
3. Do you have two separate home directories?
4. Is anything you've posted so far from the LXDE installation, or is it all from the Openbox one?

If all your problems are from Openbox. please do this in a terminal:

1.- Yes I have two separate installations, one in Primary (C:) HDD with LXDE and the other in Secondary (D:) HDD with Openbox.
2.- Yes, I reboot to change from one desktop to the other.
3.- Yes, I have two separate home directories. I wish I had a common home directory, which is much more efficient, but with my limited knowledge with Linux (and PC's as well) I couldn't do it.
4.- Everything posted related to the problem with Openbox is from the Openbox installation, EXCEPT the hardware Info related to my LXDE installation, that runs very well.

So, all my problems are from Openbox.

I will try your suggestion to run in terminal and will post.

If all your problems are from Openbox. please do this in a terminal:

su -
cd /etc/X11
mv xorg.conf xorg.conf-bad
XFdrake
exit
exit

XFdrake will run the videocard setup. Accept the default nVidia driver highlighted. It should be the nVidia one. After saving the changes and closing the terminal and any running programs, reboot.

I ran XFdrake in terminal but at the end when probing the settings I had the following error message:

An error occurred:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0):  *** Aborting ***

Try to change some parameters

The only option that was not default that I accepted, was the one related to the monitor brand. First option was "custom" and second one was "LCD1512" (corresponding to my NEC monitor) that I chose.

Everything else I leaved untouched. I noticed that there are several setting combinations, surely there is a right one for my hardware. I am sure of this, because the PCLOS LXDE installation runs very well.

What kernel are you running on the LXDE install and on the Openbox one? uname -r in a terminal as a regular user will give you the version for each one.

Hi,
djohnston : normally the kernel should be the same if unist didn't change it ( 2.6.38.8-pclos3.bfs). I have always published the Openbox isos with the same kernel as everybody else does.

I have asked him to check that the nvidia driver is in his Openbox, and nouveau removed... I still think that once this checked and fixed if necessary, copying the xorg.conf from the Lxde install is the simplest way to go.

Regards,
Mélodie

That's good. And, I didn't think of that until you mentioned it in an earlier post. I still want him to verify what is actually installed. It looks like his Openbox installation has a borked video driver installation, although he says he didn't install a new one recently. Time will tell.

djohnston and Mélodie: IT IS SOLVED!!!
After I posted the error message when running XFdrake, I rebooted and now I couldn't enter at all in Openbox.
Then I was going to look for the xorg.conf file in LXDE to copy it to Openbox.
In my second reboot, simply Openbox opened PERFECT. I didn't copy the xorg.conf from LXDE and didn't remove nouveau.
For the doubt, I rebooted again to Openbox, and it was PERFECT.
So, it is SOLVED.
Whatever the error message came out from XFdrake, after I saved the changes, somehow it solved it.
Thank you again to you two!!!!!
P.S.: in addition to solve the issue, I learned a lot from you with great pleasure!!!

Can you post your xorg.conf? What kernel are you running? What is the meaning of life?  ???

I'm kidding, of course. Glad you got it solved.  ;D
