It looks like lxdpms disabled would render the
same results as "xset dpms 0 0 0" and return
to default settings when enabled, which I use
all the time. Tray icon should be a good feature.
or use
xset -dpms to disable, and
xset +dpms to enable...
But simpler is a simple gui for us noob users 
Ergonomically speaking...
I would like my machine to boot up at
xset dpms 0 0 0
then be able to go to xset dpms 0 0 10
when listening to music to give myself a
little time to clear the keyboard of my presence
then go back to xset dpms 0 0 0 when that
is over to watch a movie...
xscreensaver is a tad bit clumsy but does do it
