(SOLVED) qjackctl and jackd need root in KDE 2012 distro
« on: September 25, 2012, 08:42:19 PM »
Hi, just installed KDE 2012 pclinuxos, and qjackctl and jackd work
perfectly when logged in as root,  but when logged in as the
normal user, no software instrument can find the jackd server,
even though qjackctl displays the system as normally running.

I then reverted back to the older versions  of libjack0, jackit, and qjackctl,
and again, everything works under root, instruments connect and
play as expected, but when logged in as the normal user, nothing sees the jackdserver.

vlc plays audio/video normally, every else seems fine. This has all functioned
perfectly in various 2007,2009,2010,2011 pclinuxos distros.
Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe a dbus rule is needed?  or :-\

another wrinkle, I just installed the very old qjackconnect, and kaconnect,
and they work fine connecting instruments, as the normal user
:o  some very strange gremlins are afoot  ;)

That software has always been that way for me.

You really have to play around with it to get it to work.

Even then, sometimes, you don't know what you did that made it start working.

Good luck!.   ;) ;D

These have been stable across many many updates until now.
Same settings year after year.

Strangely, I installed calligra, which pulled in quite a few
kde and other dependencies, ran the latest repo updates from heanet
a few days later, and now, I can start qjackctl as normal
user again. Happy, but very curious.

I had tried qjackctl again after modifying

/home/you/.config/rncbc.org/QjackCtl.conf

In the seventh line, change Realtime=true to Realtime=false,
or just untick the RT setting in qjackctl (facepalm)

I thought that perhaps the current kernel workings
were not seen as true RT by qjackctl. At that point things worked,
but also worked again after restarting with the RT box ticked.
Then I remembered the new installs and updates.

I have the priority set at 89 in qjackctl,
because I mainly use this for music apps.
Installed items are

libjack0-1.9.7-1pclos2011
jackit-1.9.7-1pclos2011
qjackctl-0.3.9-12012pclos

There is now a newer thread on this topic, so I'll post in it,
from now on.
Cheers
