[solved]active tab color
« on: February 01, 2012, 03:24:34 PM »
running PCLOS 2011 kde 32 bit

Not real knowledgeable about themes and such. When in an application like Gnucash, I need the active tab to be a different color from the rest of the tabs. Just a little nudge in the right direction would be great.

Thanks,
Harold

That's not really a function of the desktop theme. The ability to change the tab colors within the application would need to be a feature in the application. Unfortunately, I don't see any real Gnucash forum. You might try the org's Main Page. There's an IRC link. Someone may have suggestions there.

Thanks. I have still been looking. Gnucash has a mailing list that I just posted a similar question to. I was afraid that might be the case. Do you know of a good source for me to study about how to tweak the themes for the windows in PCLOS? I look at 'Application Appearance' but am unsure of what to change to make things easier to see. To me, I would like for the window title to be something other than gray.

Like in Firefox, most of the area around the menu and bookmarks are gray as well as the window title, but the active tab goes white. I can live with that but when you have several windows open and all the titles are gray it is sometimes hard to tell which window is active.

Sorry, if I am rambling.

Harold

I'm not finding anything for configuring KDE4 themes. I think your best bet is to ask on the KDE Forum. Themes for Firefox are easier. The hardest part is deciding which one to use. Just go to the Firefox addons site, enter the term theme in the search bar and wait for the results. If you have not yet upgraded to Firefox version 10 as a Synaptic update, I'd hold off on installing any themes until after the upgrade.

Thanks. I am using a Firefox addon called Tab Mix Plus for the tabs in FF. I got an answer from the Gnucash mailing list. There might be a setting in Gnucash itself to handle the tab color.

Additionally, you can change the look for KDE stuff (to some extent) by going to

Configure Your Desktop >> Common Appearance & Behaviour  >> Application Appearance >> Colours

On the first Tab (Scheme) there should be a selection to choose from - if none suit you can use the Get New Schemes option to download and install others.

To further tweak a Colour Scheme go to the Color tab and you can select items for individual Backgrounds and/or Text etc.
