Screenshot not working in E17, but is in XFCS(multi-boot box)
« on: January 23, 2012, 01:57:38 PM »
I'm Multi booting Win7Pro, E17 & XFCE versions. <Print Screen> and the screenshot applet both work in the XFCE install, but not in E17. I need screenshots in E17, as that's where I run multiple VMs for my degree course.

Hardware is: Asrock M3A785GMH/128M 785G AM3 board
                   Phenom ll X4 850
                   8Gb Corsair DDR3 1600
640 Gb Hdd (PCLOS XFCE/Win7 Pro)
800 Gb Hdd (PCLOS E17 Fall Magic)
                   Generic DVD burner
                   Generic multi-card reader

I'd really like an answer as I want to make E17 my default desktop.

There is a special plugin in Xfce which allows having screenshots directly from the button of the keyboard. I don't know E17 and can't give you directly a way to make your PrintScreen button work. You can use one of these programs:

mtPaint Screenshot    //needs to install mtPaint
scrot    //needs to install scrot - easy command line tool : in console, type "scrot -d -c 8 myshot.png" : and you have 8 seconds delay to hide the console while hiding the console and finishing to present your vm for the shot. Then you can call back the command to change it something like : "scrot -d -c 8 2-myshot.png" for the following screenshot and so on.

This is what I use to make presentations, tutorials... (then convert with the -resize switch to get the exact size I need for the screenshots before using them).

I hope it helps you.

In e17:

1. Left-click desktop. Select Settings > Modules.
2. In the Utilities section, select Screenshot by highlighting it.
3. Click the Load button.
4. Close the Module Settings window.
5. Left-click the desktop. Select Settings > Gadgets.
6. In the Add Gadget section, select Screenshot by highlighting it.
7. Click Add Gadget button. (Screenshot icon will appear on desktop.)
8. Click Apply button.
9. Close Gadgets Manager window.
10. Right-click the camera icon and select Begin move/resize.
11. Drag the camera to where you want it on the desktop by left-clicking the camera icon window, holding down the left mouse key and dragging the icon.
12. You can resize it by using the horizontal and vertical handles.
13. Right-click the icon to stick it to the desktop.
14. Right-click the icon and select Settings.
15. Choose your settings. Use the Advanced button for more settings control.
16. Click Apply button.

In e17, almost all your desktop and toolbar "widgets" will be e17 gadgets. A gadget cannot be used until its e17 module has been loaded into memory.

Many thanks to Melodie, mtPaint screenshot does it just perfectly.

I like mtPaint as a light painting app from the little I've seen of it so far.

Well , on the screenshot module , only two small points:

1)Install emprint
2)Changed path home/(Textar)/Desktop by the home/(username)/Desktop.

Greetings.
