ThinkPad T520 laptop? any parts to avoid?
« on: January 30, 2012, 03:30:55 PM »
Hay thought I would ask

Historically IBM worked well on Linux but Lenovo is no IBM.

I am wondering if there are any parts to avoid getting on the config for the T520 that just wont work right?

Hope some one knows if any of the wifi cards or camera should be avoid because they wont work

Thinkpads whether they are old IBMs or Lenovo are still designed by the same people. In fact the Think line IS the old PCG group sold by IBM to Lenovo. A few machines are hybrid designs but still have to go through the PCD development teams before release. I'm sorry I can't help you with the problem but I cannot let unfounded rumors perpetuate.
I run PCLOS on three Lenovo products (X100e,X120e, and even an old 3000 series laptop) with no problems. The development team at PCLOS might have some problems with newer hardware but the x series I have run fine.

Nvidia Optimus technology currently is not supported from PCLinuxOS current kernels and utilities ... support is however available for Linux ... at various stages ... your mileage may vary ...  ;)
