How to install drivers for Kyocera FS-1350DN laser printer
« on: January 28, 2012, 11:27:35 AM »
I just acquired this printer and I can't use it..  Pclos has Kyocera drivers, but not my model--I downloaded a driver file from the Kyocera web site, but I have no idea how to get it in the iist for Pclos.  The file is zipped, and when unzipped, I find an English .ppd file, so what do I do now???  BTW I have Pclos 2011.09..  I will greatly appreciate any help..

When installing - through PCC - I recall an option to use a specific PPD file ......  so I guess you would chose the d/loaded file.

PPD files appear to be located under  /usr/share

Bill,

You could set it up using CUPS. First, make sure task-printing package has been installed using Synaptic. Then, open your internet browser. Enter in the URL field - http://localhost:631/admin . Click Add Printer, supply root's password and follow the prompts. When asked for the printer driver, there's an option to use a .ppd file.

Thanks, guys-- I haven't accomplished anything yet,  for some unknown reason, CUPS stopped taking my authentication before I got anything done, and I suspect the file is not in the exact format required.  But this gives me a way to go, so I'll keep working on it.  I'm going to do a clean reinstall shortly, and we'll see what happens then.. Thank you...
