Lotsa good answers here, here's another.
If you want to preserve your PASS login info you can;
-Download latest sources.list
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2000125/sources.list
-edit downloaded sources.list as root
-copy/paste into current /etc/apt/sources.list
-save
Choose desired repo
When PASS comes online simply change to PASS credentials (provided they remain the same after PASS migration)  ;D

Back up your PASS credentials. Install apt-sources-list via Synaptic. During installation, your old sources list will be created as an rpmsave file. What is so hard about that? I went to the trouble to create this easy way to update sources list for you guys, and y'all start posting ways to avoid installing the rpm. Why? I tested the bloody thing before sending it to the repo. It works!

Neal, I'm completely with you and did as you said.

But to enable me to install I needed a working mirror to update and d/l from...
It was like "the car keys are in the car, but the car is locked."

EDIT: the PASS server is not working

All problems solved, thanks.

What I was trying to say was that I could not d/l apt-sources-list as it was not on the pass server. But as I had overwritten my original sources.list with the PASS sources.list, I needed a sources.list (or a repo) from somewhere so I could get to a public repo to d/l apt-sources-list.

Once I had changed (after backing up of course) my sources.list following djohnston's hint, I could update from a public mirror and d/l apt-sources-list. So now, Synaptic is set to a public mirror (etz.debian.ch iirc) and after running a full update (which wasn't big as I only needed what had not gone to the PASS server) I installed apt-sources-list which did what it is supposed to:

I just couldn't get where I needed to go to d/l apt-sources-list as I had lost (or better  thrown away) the "key" (public mirrors). To make it all worse, I had posted back before following djohnston's advice and have created a mess as it seems. Not only was the thread hijacked, but a lot of confusion was created. My bad, sorry for that.  :-\  :-\ Should have searched better maybe before posting anything.

Now, all is fine. Thank you once again Neal, keep up the good work!  :)

EDIT 2: Had I been thinking after reading the first post of this thread I might have figured out myself what to do next.... Oh boy, noob error .....  :o :o :o

ouch! Sorry NealManBear, I didn't realise your script did that since you said to back up your PASS info. Not trying to knock your script.  :)

ouch! Sorry NealBear, I didn't realise your script did that since you said to back up your PASS info. Not trying to knock your script.  :)
     
Advice to back up is always given. It is a simple safety measure.
