I recently bought and instellaed a HP wifi printer.  When I installed it I did not assign it a static ip address, I allowed an automatic ip address to be assigned.  As a different ip address has now been assigned, I currently can't print from my laptop wirelessly.

I have attempted to edit hplip.conf using my userid and also root, but changes to the config file are not holding, the ip address reverts back to the one shown below:

device_uri="hp:/net/HP_LaserJet_Professional_P1102w?ip=192.168.0.104"

My intention is to assign an ip address which will not change.  My question is can I some how change the ip address to enable printing again, OR, will I need to re-install the printer?

I am running KDE which is up to date.

Thanks in advance.

Hi TerryH,

I do not know how is generated hplip.conf, but as far as I know, deviceURI is defined in /etc/cups/printers.conf, that's the one used from cups.

Whether, you manually edit the file, or change the configuration via system-config-printer, should not make any difference.  ;)

Thanks for the quick response.

As I need to apply a manual ip address for the printer so this won't happen again, I am going to re-install and get it right.
