Calibre for Windows = Dolphin Crash (solved)
« on: January 23, 2012, 06:36:45 PM »
Today I downloaded Calibre for windows on to one of my PClinux computers,I was going to
put it onto a usb stick and install it on my wifes Windows XP computer. (she still refuses to try PCLinux)
But after it downloaded into my Downloads folder every time I tried to open the folder, Dolphin
would crash so fast that I couldn't even right click and Delete Calibre.

So how do I get rid of Calibre ?

I got out my trusty PCLinux Live CD and booted from it, navigated to my installed home>downloads
folder, opened it up and was able to delete Calibre for windows -- PROBLEM SOLVED !

Thanks Tex for this wonderful OS that you and the team have created !

( I realize that I could have used a terminal to delete the file, but I wanted to try a different route )

Maybe logging in again or rebooting would have been sufficient..... when we get KDE 4.8.x, we get a brand new Dolphin (with a different backend), so hopely those problems will be solved then  ;)

I did reboot and Dolphin still crashed - sorry for not including that earlier.

Wow, odd behavior... certainly something I haven't encountered yet. In any case, have you tried booting with a LiveCD to delete the offending file?

I'm wondering if Bleachbit, "Shred Files" would have worked.
Suppose Live CD is the best big hammer we have for situations like this.

Or, Konqueror Super User Mode, (if installed)  may have done the job, main thing, the job is done   ;)

*PCLOS 3.2.18-pclos2 - MiniMe 2013.x - KDE 4.10.1 - Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz - 1GiB DIMM DDR 533 MHz RAM  = SHABANG ! ;) *Software Updates

At the time I didn't think to try Bleachbit or Konqueror.

Right, I probably wouldn't have either  ;)
Easy reading about a problem, not so when dealing with one in realtime.
