I don't believe it is hurting anything, but I am surprised it is there, as it was excluded.

Just because the home directory of user ray was not included in the remaster, does not mean the user ray was eliminated from the system files. User ray will still exist in the /etc/passwd and /etc/group files, so either he was given a new default /home/ray directory on installation, or it has been created when/if he attempted to login; just the former contents, including his personal preferences, of his original /home/ray directory will be missing.

Thanks for jumping in O-P, when I booted the live re-master dvd, after clicking on the US keyboard box, I was taken to the log in screen where I could choose "ray" or "root" I did log in with user/ray and ray's password. then I was met with a plasma desktop that was completely black using the default "desktop" setting and the "kicker" menu( I always use Folder View) and 2 icons in a "widget"window, they were "home" and "trash". when I clicked on the "home" icon, dolphin opened to /home/ray, but as you said only the default folders were present and all were empty of course,  but all of my installed programs were there. I will be first to admit that I don't know enough about the scheme of things to understand what or why it happened, I just know what I am seeing. Thanks for your opinion on this, I really appreciate it.One last bit of info FYI, while in the live dvd, I went to PCC>System>Users, and "ray" is there.

It would seem users have their folders created by the system when it boots if they don't already exist. I exclude the whole of /home/ from my remaster but I've just booted it in a VM and logged into root to ensure I didn't create anything in /home and I not only had a /home but a ~/ for my normal user with a tmp/ inside.
