Does it happen if Add-ons are disabled?

Does it happen if you create a new Firefox user profile?

You may want to give BleachBit a whirl and clean out the Firefox cache, and also the KDE cache and temp files and the Flash cache. Close Firefox before running BleachBit

Note - be careful using BleachBit as it can remove cookies, history and passwords etc if those options are enabled.

Edit - prelink has been causing a few browser related problems - please see:

My computer is on all the time. I was having browser problems and "fixed it" by doing a complete computer restart instead of a logout and login. I hadn't realized before that I had updated to PCLOS 2012.

Firefox uses more and more memory as you continue to use it.  Memory used will even increase while you are not even loading more pages.  Restarting gives you a fresh start.  My Firefox is at present using 636 Mb of memory.  If I restarted, that would fall to 90 something.

It can sometimes be beneficial to use about:memory and run the Minimize Memory Usage tool.

It's also ermm,  "interesting" to see which sites are using a lot memory..........

Since the update to FF 9.01, browsing with FF on my computer has been painfully slow.

I will probably find another browser and hope something improves with the next update.

AMD Athlon 64 3200, 2GB ram,  ~320 GB HD,  Video=XFX GeForce 210 (512mb) PCI-e    KDE     Kern  3.2.18-pclos2.a64

I used to think I knew a lot about computers until I started using Linux.  Now I feel my age...

I posted earlier to this thread that bleachbit helped, then not 5min later FF locked up so I deleted that post.  >:(
So I didn't actually post this, but bleachbit did seem to help.  ;D

I am happily not having any problem with it at all now.  I wonder what makes "differences".

Hi
I have hesitated to post here, but it looks that me too am having problems with the latest FF.
I have " hangs ". FF just freezes on occasion. Since I an not sure ( ever ) who is the culprit , I will live with it for now.
I have followed advice provided in this forum ( and others ) but it doesn't change.
But it is not a show stopper for me.

Xx

as in what direction we are moving.

I finally determined that for some unknown reason the latest update changed my video driver from "nv" to "nouveau".
I had to go back in as "/" and change the Xorg.confg text file and reboot twice and now I am back to using the "nv" driver.
This command checks your driver:

cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep iver

This thread below has more details if anyone is having this problem using "nouveau" consider changing the driver.

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,93931.msg789701.html#msg789701

My computer runs like it is suppose to (fast) using the "nv" driver.

james@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep iver
    Driver "nv"

sorry but how to use "about:memory" thingie???
and how to run the "Minimize Memory Usage"???

i discovered that mainly it hangs when i use facebook and twitter for sometime... it suddenly gets very slow and can stay for ages when i try to browse within facebook or try to refresh or like or post anything within it...or refresh or send a tweet in twitter... while other tabs are working fine!!!
i need then to restart firefox and by then facebook and twitter work fine... for sometime then it hangs... so its mainly something about firefox and twitter tabs not the other tabs in the same window!!!
any ideas??
Hope that one day ill be able to help as much as I'm being helped now...

(you're going to hate this)
Put "about:memory" (no "s) in the address bar.  Go to the bottom of the page and click Minimize Memory Usage.

+1.  It seems pretty smooth and faster. I did have to re-set it as my default browser in order for Thunderbird links to open in it (as usual).
