gateway laptop sound issues

pclinuxos 2011 fullmonty
fresh install


issue

sound not working correctly have system sounds but no mulimedia sound

please help i am new to pclinuxos and kde / disenchanted by changes made to gnome another distro / i work well in cli but being new to this distro  few things have changed that have thrown me off kilter. i will be checking in hourly  to check (need this fixed asap)

that's OK.

That's look like turned off, should be on as the default for PCLinuxOS is alsa sound.
try to activate it, then log out and log in again.

if not solved, post the output of the following commands:

cat /etc/modprobe.conf

still nothing any other ideas?
(sound worked under gnome on ubuntu but that was about the only thing that worked right would i be able to scalp config files from there the live disk if so how)

you are currently using pulseaudio, check sound configuration using pavucontrol (install it. if not already installed)

??? should not be so ... but i have no idea of what the problem is ...

may be you installed pulseaudio and you didn't reboot ?

Additionally, from PCLinuxOS Control Center -> Hardware -> Sound configuration, check if Pulse Audio is enabled ...
... if you need to apply a change reboot the system.

the blasted driver disapearred put it back and rebooting now

Maybe install PulseAudio again using task-pulseaudio (Metapackage for Pulse Audio) and also reinstall pavucontrol (and possibly padevchooser ? )

Then a full reboot
