AMD Phenom(tm) 9850 Quad-Core Processor
« on: January 16, 2012, 05:27:15 AM »
Good to all'
I have a AMD Phenom(tm) 9850 Quad-Core Processor w/ 4G of DDR2 ram .on an ASUS motherboard. (kids in collage, all I can afford). I have been running kde 32 bit for some time and am extremely happy with the os as well as the great support. I was wondering if it would be worth to speed benefit to switch from 32 to 64 bit. Also are there any other benefits vs shortcomings.

Heya Tom,

In the end, only you will be able to gauge whether 64-bit would bring benefits to you. I strongly suggest that you put aside a partition and install it. Do remember that 64-bit is still in testing and not to be used in production machines. That's also something you have to decide for yourself.

Another thing to remember is the current state of our 64-bit is testing. When it comes out of testing, you will be oblige to reinstall if the announcement is for a reinstall because there maybe "stuff" on Texstar's official release that may not be available through continuous updates. If you want to risk it, it is a strong recommendation.

But it's you who should decide.

Peace and much respect,
Archie.
