My desktop has disappeared ...
« on: January 16, 2012, 02:39:07 AM »
Another odd event in PCLOS LXDE.

I was running a distro called Toorox from a Live CD. When I closed it and rebooted, everything seemed to proceed normally - 'Booting system', 'localhost.localdomain' log-in.

But my desktop had become a plain grey screen : no icons, nothing.

I've always assumed that a Live CD can't affect the hard disk so what on earth is happening ?

When I right-click, I get a minimal range of applications : Office, System, Internet, Terminals etc. I'm writing this in Firefox which connects with the Internet O.K.

I guess that the underlying system is undamaged. If only I could restore my desktop.

Can anyone suggest a command which would start the normal desktop ?

Thanks.

usually in KDE, you would rename your .kde4 folder and see if that helps.

I don't know where LXDE stores the user settings.

You could create a new user and see if things work there, then report back.
All that is is good. PCLinuxOS is.
