GermanTux;
   Thanks for the reply. No, I can't reach any outside addresses, i.e. 8.8.8.8 both on WiFi and wired. I think I tried other DNS server settings previously and then my wife's Acer Vista system disconnected with a "DNS settings modified" or something to that effect.
   I will try again as well as getting the NIC drivers and firmware up to date. I'll post back with the outcome.
Have a Great One!

So, this is an overall networking problem.  No wired, no wireless....

I hate to say it, but have you  tried a re-install?  Sounds like a corrupt tcp/ip stack.

Greetings GT;
   Tried your DNS suggestion, no success. I can do a re-install, no problem. Being new to Linux, is the TCP/IP built-in to the kernel somewhere ? Would there be a patch or update out there somewhere ? Just trying to keep the posts to a minimum. One other ?, even though the ipw2200 driver in the kernel is up-to-date, could I try ndiswrapper using the Win version ?
Thanks,

Sorry, but I disagree here, this is not windows, additionally there has been a previous report where communication with router was OK

You know I had an issue like this a while ago with my laptop.  It said I was connected and I could not get online. What I finally did was go back to an earlier kernel and that corrected the issue for me.  Perhaps you should give it at try???  I had to get  the earlier kernel and the dkms file for it with  a different machine and put it on a usb stick and installed it from that.

Hey YCT;
   I was thinking on that line too. I know others have been successful with certain distros of Linux right from the start, including wireless on the T43 series. I'll check around for other kernels. The T43p was released on 6/2006 and Intel has some info on the ipw2200 drivers and when they were included in the various kernels. So I'll try this out and hopefully I can report SOLVED.
Thanks again,

Greetings All;
  The solution came in a roundabout way. We had the same problem with my wife's newly acquired Nook. After Googling their issues it was noted many users had to have their MAC address in their router for it to function as intended. Not knowing our router had a setting for this before, I manually typed in the Nook MAC address. Voila, 15 seconds later working. After that I did the same for this T43 laptop, booted up the PCLOS Live CD, wifi connected on auto via DHCP after entering WPA/PSK info, web pages displayed correctly.
   So, thanks to all who were kind enough to offer their time and knowledge. Sorry this topic went so long and maybe others will get  the answer they need also.
