(SOLVED! THANK YOU!) Wha?? Google Picasa Doesn't Support Linux?
« on: January 07, 2012, 07:59:08 PM »
Go to http://picasa.google.com/ and you'll see that Linux is not compatible.

"Picasa is not currently available for your operating system"

Same thing happened with my Android Tablet.

Picasa is ran in Linux using a special wine bottle (container) Picasa is not written for Linux only for Windows.  I would guess that if you can use wine on you Android you might also be able to then run picasa.

Georgetoon,

I found that Picasa does well for very basic image processing, but thats about it. Applies for the latest version, also.

Digikam gives me much more and more fine-grained options for photo-retouching. And you can get a very similar gui layout choosing 'flat list' option and marking the main folder. Choose 'show subfolders' (or so, not in front of it right now) and all your images will show. You can narrow down the number of images shown by clicking the stars in the status bar or chosing tags in the right sidebar (downmost section).

Once we Texstar blesses us with a current version, there will be face recognition and more cutting-edge features that will make Picasa look like a mere toy.
All that is is good. PCLinuxOS is.

Actually, I'm just trying to figure out where I can edit my Google image folders.  They got piped into my Android gallery and I need to clean them up.  I thought this could be done through Picasa

Mark.

I was posting this info (ranting about it) before but I will write this again just to say that I am still not ok with this. Google loves Linux so much it's using it as a base for their Linux-like android... BUT... Picasa for Linux has no Linux installer. It must be ran on Wine. Check out the /opt/picasa folder... Also... No native angry birds installer for Linux either... Not sure about the google earth. Seems to me like they love Linux but keep forgetting about it's users when it goes to giving back their products...

Regards.

I'm not quite sure if I understood that correctly - you have images on your Android tablet which are being uploaded to Picasa web albums and now you want to edit them.

So, are you looking for an image editing application for

a) Linux
b) Android
c) online

or is it something completely different that you need?

Sorry if I'm not seeing the obvious.

Cheers,

Andreas

yeah, sad to see Google does not provide native linux support, and no 64bit support at all.
Anyway, I have Picasa 3.9 running on the FullMonty master. Will try to update the 3.0 rpm and then send it to Tex.

Exactly. I want to ,meely eit the fldrs on Picasa.  Any poo edting I do is in gimp.  I just want o move files arond.

If Picasa is in the repos, then it's Linux based.  I'm gonna take a look.
Yep, it's there. Not sure if it's going to allow me to edit the web based foldrs or not. I'll give it a go!:)

Thanks, folks!:)

Well, Picasa on PCLinuxOS does a terrific job of finding and moving photos on your local drive.  But no way to read the web-based folders for Picasa online.  You can export and import to/from web folder, but can't view them and move them around, etc.

No your assumption is WRONG!  It is not Linux based. It relies on its on special port of Wine (container) to run in.  There is nothing Linux based about it.

That's the sad thing that I was talking about in the post above... Picasa uses windows versions on top of wine container to provide Linux with their products... I really DO NOT understand them...

Digikam IS Linux based and can also import from Picasa (with Kipi plugins).

For online editing, why not use your browser?  ::) ::) ::) In Picasa Web albums you can copy, move, or delete files. You can edit it online in Picnik. Click yourself through the options, Georgetoon.

For local editing and administration of your pics my 2 ct are Digikam  :)
