« on: November 05, 2012, 10:50:55 AM »
"According to web tracker Net Applications, Windows 7 featured a market share of 44.7 percent in October, representing an increase from September's 44 percent. As for Windows XP, the operating system's share decreased from 41.2 percent to 40.7 percent last month."

and

"Ultimately, Windows dominated the OS market with a share of more than 91 percent. Apple's Mac OS holds a 7.1 percent share, while Linux trails behind with just over 1 percent."

When I look at site logs I see large numbers of entries from robots claiming to be multiple versions of IE on multiple versions of Windows asking for pages at the rate of several per second all from the same IP, and not asking for stylesheets or images.

I believe the reason for this is the robot owners suspect the robots will be discriminated against if they don't pretend to be IE, but they don't want to be identified by the combination of IE and OS version. However, I'm convinced there is a lot of traffic out there which claims to be from Windows but is nothing of the sort, inflating MS's apparent market share. This makes any attempt to assess market share from website hits too unreliable to be useful.

from linux using user agent in firefox saying it is ie on xp or ie8 in wine?   ;D

still, numbers like those, where you don't see anywhere vista and see considerable numbers for xp after all this years says alot about that company

their latest products were ignored and their oldest working product while being bad(all his quirks, weirdness and fails), is what people got used to handle and work with

It's funny, I was just coming to correct that after I gave it some thought. Thank you for thinking that too. ;)
