Well, I could not find any info on this so here it goes.
I have a problem connecting to a network that I do not want to connect too.
I use my computer in a building that offers me free wi fi. There are other open connections in this building an therein lies the problem.
No matter how I configure my connection to the wifi I want to use , the computer always connects to a certain open connection in the building. I disconnect, then try to connect to my connection and it connects back to the unwanted connection. Nothing I do seems to stop it.
This is not my strong point, so it may be something simple ,so I apologize in advance for my ignorance.

I wonder if anybody have had that problem, usually is the other way around   ???

This is a strange problem. Happens on 2 different laptops. It has been giving me fits.
I tried to configure just the one connection to boot up when I use it. It still connects to the other open network.

have you tried to configure the interface to not auto connect?

If it doesnt autoconnect,then you will have to manually connect and hence it will connect only to access points you specifically want to connect to.

Tried that. It reverts back to auto connect. I am truly at a loss here.

Try this: I have used it to control connection to psk-secured networks -- it should work for open.

When you make a connection, even an open one, it should appear in wpa_supplicant. Edit the file and add disabled=1 to the network you want to avoid.

You need to know the ssid and be root to edit. The file is:
/etc/wpa_supplicant

Here's one of mine disabled.

network={
    psk="TsjcIbkCc9JpvxAy2LmKPPazXbTQN5vmqA0"
    priority=1
    scan_ssid=0
    ssid="days_and_knights"
    disabled=1
}

If you've already connected, you may need to reboot.

If you don't get it resolved, I would try wicd. I use it exclusively on all of my machines.

I was unable to get this to work. Perhaps I didn't enter everything correctly or missed a step. Maybe because it is an open network.
