How much RAM do you have? What size swap partition do you have? Did you run bleachbit and bleachbit-root before attempting the remaster?

Update: Not fixed. it froze about five minutes after I successfully made the remaster. I checked in Bios during reboot and temps for my AMD Athlon were normal, CPU-39°/MB-37°. I had RPM reading on both fans so I assume they are working.

Checking the BIOS means shutting down at which time whatever was causing the problem has gone.

You need to run something to monitor such things as temperature, running processes etc while using the PC, so that you can see what may be causing the freeze.

Obviously it is not the remastering itself that is causing it - with this latest info - so it is unlikely to be temperature related. Nonetheless it is a good idea to monitor temp as well as other things.

Watching the running processes could give an indication if one of them is consuming too much resources, which might be the cause also.

What apps are running when it happens?

Totally lost on getting a temperature monitor to work, see previous replies. I was using Opera only when it froze. I doubt it was the page I was looking at  because when I restarted I opened in the same page with no problem. I do not normally run multiple programs in the background or have more then two or three tabs in Opera.

When making the remaster I did mostly run at 99%. I ran no other programs. I even turned off Wallpaper Slide Show. I did not use the browser.

Ray,
When remastering, run nothing else. Absolutely nothing!
So, you ignore my questions? Think they are worthless, as they ask rather than answer? Think again.

Quite the contrary ......  the little you posted in this post indicates that you did set up lm_sensors and that it found sensors to monitor.

You made no comment at all on whether you ran Glrellm and what that displayed.

What ran at 99%?  From what monitoring app did you get that figure?

You are not giving us information.
You also need to answer direct questions with explicit answers .......  they are asked to help someone help you.

I saw no temperature display after I set it up. Sorry I should have stated that. In fact I had it running while I did the remaster.

While the image was being made. I used Glrellm .

Not intentional. I'm just overwhelmed by answers to what seemed a simple question. I'm probably beyond my abilities. Perhaps I should just close the thread. I do appreciate your help.

I would ask that you continue .......  just try to take each post and answer the questions in that post, by quoting the post as you did mine above.
The quoting of the questions is nearly as important as the answers  ;)

Right click on the GKrellm display and select Configuration ....  see if you can enable temperature monitoring in there.

Think I found how to set it but haven't got it to show up yet.

Yes, I found it after I posted it. Will try a remaster after I have time to transfer the latest one to USB and let you know what happens.

Thanks very much for holding in there with me.

Keep Gkrellm visible at all times on the desktop ........  as you reported the PC froze when you were not remastering, it would appear not to be connected to the remaster .......  but it could still be temp related, so it is useful if a temp problem can be eliminated.

Delete any old, failed remasters. Run bleachbit and bleachbit root. From this point, any attempt at remastering will fail, if you do not clean up your system.

You should run bleachbit and bleachbit root at least once a month anyway to keep your system clean.
