Heya Jasse,

Will this thread only be for pure RAW or everything (that is unique to the additions) goes?

Heya Jasse,

Will this thread only be for pure RAW or everything (that is unique to the additions) goes?

Due to its nature RAW can throw some a curve ball, this thread is here (in part) as a net to keep those curve balls from hitting the main help areas of the forum as it may not be clear if its something that needs to be raised about an application in the main forum or if its somthing that is RAW specific - I would imagine that quite a few questions will belong in the larger forum  - this is a way to manage that too

The tips and tricks relate to only RAW usage, if its a general ti or trick then we already have a section for that, this should act as a guide on how to get what you want from RAW  and how to avoid some potential issues etc

It will also assist if its decided that currently non-mainstream releases need to provide their own support else where as i can just copy/paste this thread over (if that is decided)

RAW as always is a deconstructed MiniMe and there has been not been any editing of any of its base files or activation of additional unstable features

So anything RAW usage or build tips goes here

Tip:

To make your RAW install more compliant with XDG standards and also help with some other desktop environmant issues you can adjust your .bashrc file to tell the system which DE you are using by adding the line

export DE=

and then adding either lxde, xfce, gnome or kde.

the XDG application defaults will tehn work, and you can use update_alternatives to set them

you can indeed set your default BROWSER in this way too

export BROWSER=

then the name of the browser (I use '/usr/bin/xxxterm -n' )

Thanks for all your work on the new .iso (I'm leaning alot trying these light iso's).

I'm using Razor openbox desktop so do I put 'export DE=openbox'  ?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the new .iso with the Razor desktop I cannot drag the icons on to the desktop short cuts, but if I look in my home desktop file the icons are there but nothing on the desktop.
I was wondering if something got left out on the new iso ?.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you got any idea's how I can get copy and paste working ?, it so useful when using a terminal or editing files or using a web browser.

openbox is not a DE it has to be  lxde, xfce, gnome or kde, I would suggest kde for razorqt.

Nothing was left out as nothing was included except for a base, it may be that natively razorqt does not allow icons on its desktop and needs an app to do so, like "idesk" remember tht rqzorqt uses a window manager seperately - like LXDE does , so it will be the rules of the windowmanager that need to be checked here.

Again you will need something like clipper (or a qt based clipboard ) to be installed if there is no native razorqt clipboard to activate.

I have got 'PCLinuxOS Raw Light' testing, I do not have many programs installed.
Doing an update today It wants to download 431MB files and use 655 MB of space.
This is not correct as it's only a small foot print distro ?.

I have not installed it.

Its not part of the RAW base either - looks like a dependency of another package

long chain ... a.k.a.  "the dependency nightmare":  some package need something provided from say tetex, some update conflict with tetex, texlive-texmf  is a alternative provider for the feature also included in tetex, the package manager to satisfy all, decide to remove tetex and install texlive-texmf.  Simple! Isn't it ?

You could try to:
reload
click on "status"
click on "installed (upgradable)
try to mark for update one package at a time, until you find who want to install texlive-texmf.  ;)

I have put PCLinuxOS Raw Light on a old Compaq Deskpro (1999) PII with 393 MB Ram and two 10G hard drives, 1 for sys files and other for home. LXDE Desktop  ;D
It's for a relative who is new to the internet it will only have Firefox, Thunderbird, Libre office and a few small apps.
It's quite responsive and will be ideal to learn on.

Thanks Jase for your hard work stripping the iso down.

In line with the new remaster guidelines for community remasters I have decidedto pull both the IcedLatte and RAW iso's from redistribution,

So no more wmii, euclid, flux...screenies on the forum?

Quote
At some point in the future I may revisit these projects inline with this policy.

Quote
In the meantime I will be focusing my attention elsewhere within the PCLinuxOS family.

Jase,
thank you for your hard work!
