Problems installing zen_mini on a Siemens Amilo-Pro
« on: December 31, 2011, 09:26:27 AM »
I've got a Siemens Amilo-Pro, but have never been able to install PCLOS-gnome because the live-CD (regardless of flavour) has always crashed at boot. Up until today, that is. Yesterday I happened to dig out an old CD of zen_mini_2010 which (to my great surprise  ::) ) didn't crash, so I've installed that. Now, unfortunately, I can't do the obligatory upgrade (even assuming it would work) because I can't find aptupgrade in the repos. Can anyone explain this to me, and whether or not a simple upgrade would even work with this zen_mini version? Thanks.

I believe you would be better served by giving exact details of what occurs when you boot with one of the newer ISOs from 2011.

In that way someone should be able to help you get it working.

On the matter of Aptupgrade .......  check some of the mirrors .....  maybe they have not all synced yet and the package is still available in one or two .....

Thanks. That's just the point, there's not much to report. The live-CD starts to boot (applies to each individual option in the boot-menu, BTW), mostly reaches the booting system phase and then just dies. No feedback, no messages, nothing.

And I've checked all my available repos (about 10) and aptupgrade seems to have completely disappeared. Sad  :( .

You should ask for assistance with the 2011 ISO at the Gnome forum. They will be able to offer Gnome specific help.
http://linuxgator.org/

The aptupgrade script was available for 6 months for use with previously installed 2010 ISOs. It isn't/wasn't for new installs of 2010. Those are too old for a safe/reliable upgrade.

Solves that problem, then. Will just have to hope that a future zen-version will include the necessary drivers/scripts/whatever ;) .

Many thanks and a happy New Year  ;D ;D .

Usually using verbose output will give some indication ......  as Neal says, you really should raise the non-booting question on the Gnome forum.
